Wyman Brother
Racing 2005 racing season has now come to an end! We spent the fall season
racing in Ohio on beautifully groomed ½ mile tracks! Travis was out for
most of the fall season with football related injuries, go figure!! Cody and
Kyle kept up the pace by scoring twelve 1st place finishes between the two of
them! Once Travis was healed, he came back and won all but one race he entered!
A stellar fall season for the Wymans! Cody has been awarded 2nd place overall
in the 100 class- Ohio State Flat Track Series and Kyle is Ohio State Champion
in the 505 Am and Open Am Classes! Kyle had the opportunity to ride the HD 750
twice this fall and following is Kyle's view on his first ride on the big 750!
My first ride on the
Harley-Davidson XR 750 was at Ottawa, Ohio, which is a track that they hadn't
raced on in 40 years. Turns out that the track was smooth and consistent, which
played a positive role in getting some seat time on the fastest bike that I
have ever ridden. I had been taking the bike through the pits, trying to feel
it out, trying to see if I can predict what it was going to do on the track.
First practice came and coming into the first turn I finally got to feel the
weight of this beast. The bike decided to not work properly and it felt like it
was trying to kick me off of it. I figured that this was just the first time
riding it and the setup would get better as the day goes on, so I just tried to
adapt to the bike for now, which weighs 100 lbs more than my 505 Rotax. During
the heat the bike was working a lot better and I was starting to get
comfortable coming into the turns, but it was getting the bike converted from
coming in to going out of the turn that was a little hard to accomplish. I
still was only getting the bike up to half throttle down the straight-aways and
wondered how the bike could possibly be any faster than it already was. For the
main, my dad and I changed a few things in the rear suspension to try to make
the bike turn better. At the start of the main, I missed a gear which showed me
how meticulous I would have to be in my shifting from then on. After I was
thoroughly in the back because of the start, I was able to make it past one
rider on the back stretch, but only because I decided to get the throttle
opened up all the way to see how she eats. I was amazed with the power, along
with what was later stated that the restrictor plates were still in it from the
previous GNC race at Duquoin, Illinois. After that I was able to pass two other
riders to finish a respectable fourth. I know that I will not be competing on
this bike in the GNC for awhile, but it is nice to start early knowing that I
am ready to challenge myself and start getting used to a new motorcycle. Thanks
to my family, friends, and sponsors that have supported Wyman Brothers Racing
this year. I hope to see you all at the races next year and if you have never
been to a flat track race you should try it. Throwing a motorcycle sideways at
100+ mph is exciting to do and also exciting to watch!!! -Kyle
